CRADLEMOON

Johannesburg

JUST A STONES THROW AWAY

Trails: There a very few mountain bike trails parks close to a major city where you can ride among a wide variety of game. Not just some game, A WIDE VARIETY! We’re talking eland, sable, blesbok, springbok, impala, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hippo, rhino and more! And every time you ride there you will see game. It really is quite special and something not to take for granted. Just ask any mountain biker overseas…

The trails at Cradle Moon are mostly singletrack with two distinct sections. The southern section, where you enter and park your car comprises the majority of the trails ideal for beginner and intermediate level riders. On the northern side (across the dam and river) the trail is more challenging with steeper gradients and more rugged terrain, including rocks.

The nature of the riding is deceptive. You may think you can do two laps of the Yellow Route, but you’ll be surprised how tiring it is, mostly because of the twisty nature of the trails, which require a high level of concentration.

There are four main trails:

  • Pink 9km – Novice/Beginner

  • Blue 9.29km – Beginner/Intermediate

  • Yellow 20.9km – Intermediate/Experienced

  • Red 15.8km – Experienced/Advanced

Local tip: There’s a split on the Yellow Trail. Take the right turn option as this gives you a bit of extra distance, but it also takes you through a ghost house! It’s not really a ghost house, it’s a house that was used for a movie set, but it’s abandoned and feels a bit eerie to ride through. Always a good spot for photos too.

Safety: The property is very secure so the feeling of safety is high. But it’s still best to be vigilant.

Operating hours: Open seven days a week from 06h00 to 17h00.
